An entryway makes the first impression when you enter the house and the last impression when you leave. The following are the basic design tips will ease the way you design and decorate your entryway to create a lasting impression.
Identity the Main function of Your Entryway
An entryway can serve one primary purpose or many purposes as per your need. Begin with an understanding of how you and your family use the entryway. Also, envision how you would like your entryway to be keeping in mind the needs of all the family members. Below are some of the functions that an entryway can serve.
Storage for Shoes/Coats
The entryway is possibly the best place to store away your shoes, coats, caps, hats, umbrellas. It is best to understand what all type of storage you might require for your entryway. Some people like storing a bin dedicated to recycling items or items for a donation which they can pick up while going out of the house.
Adding Privacy to your space
The entryway can serve the purpose of partitioning a space physically. You can add a bookshelf or a storage unit not against the wall but where the area needs to be a partition. The height of the partitioning element can be as per your requirement.
The command centre of the home
The entryway can be an efficient command centre for your home. Many of us like the command centre of the house to be near the entry/exit point so that they can run through their checklist while entering and leaving home.
Sometimes just the feel of a decorated glamorous entryway is what people look for. This is especially true of large spaces where the entryway is more of a hallway and can conceal function with stunning aesthetics. But that doesn’t mean that aesthetics has no role to play in smaller spaces, it is just that the aesthetics are more governed by the function.
Identify the Entryway design style
The design style can range from rustic to luxurious, from bohemian to art deco, from eclectic to minimalist. Select the style in conjunction with the style of the room to which the entryway opens into. You want the design style to be contiguous and following one into the other. Hence avoid to starkly different design style from the rest of your home (unless of course having different style is your design theme). Select items (furniture, accessories, light) according to your dominant design style.
